House hosts session on whistleblowers; adopts three motions
On Sept. 13, there was a debate in the House of Representatives on the Whistleblower Protection Act. Secretary of State Van Huffelen promised to speed up progress. Then in October, three motions from House members were passed.

On Feb. 18, 2023, the Whistleblower Protection Act went into effect, requiring organizations of 250 employees or more to have updated their reporting procedures. Starting next December 17, this will apply to all organizations of 50 or more employees. However, two key provisions have been postponed for now. Recently, the minister outlined a timeline for entry into force.
Minister’s disappointing letter to Senate
In early July, the Interior Minister answered a letter with questions from the Senate. In general, we find the response disappointing, with a single exception.
The Whistleblower Protection Act will make the difference
In the NRC newspaper of March 29, Dierx and Van Eijbergen argued that it is essential that journalists reveal serious wrongdoing, such as at the Dutch tv programs The Voice, DWDD and Studio Sport, because the legislation is inadequate. We disagree with that point of view.
Dutch organisations still in state of denial about Whistleblower Protection Act
Dutch organisations are still in a state of denial about the new Whistleblower Protection Act (WPA). This is evident from interviews conducted by The Integrity Coordinator with some 100 different types of organisations of various sizes in recent months.
Whistleblower Protection Act now in force
On the 18th of February, the Whistleblower Protection Act came into force. From now on, legal entities of 250 employees or more must have adapted their whistleblowing procedure and have designated one or more independent persons to receive and/or follow up on whistleblower reports. This also applies to all parties in the financial sector and all organisations required to comply with anti-money laundering legislation, regardless of their size. Legal entities with 50-249 employees still have until the 17th of December to prepare for this.
